Meras — Core Banking Modernization

Decomposed a 15-year-old core monolith into an event-driven platform with open-banking APIs, without closing the bank for a single hour.

The challenge

The bank's legacy core processed every product — accounts, cards, transfers — through one tightly coupled monolith. Release cycles ran to quarters, every change carried whole-system risk, and SAMA's Open Banking Framework set API expectations the old stack could not meet.

The modernization had to happen in production: no big-bang rewrite, no downtime windows the regulator and customers would feel.

What we built

We carved the monolith into event-driven services along product boundaries, stood up an open-banking API gateway aligned with SAMA's framework, and rebuilt the deployment pipeline around blue-green releases.

Account domains cut over one at a time behind a routing façade — fourteen months of migrations, each rehearsed in a production-mirror environment, each reversible until the moment it was proven.

“vira rebuilt our core platform while the bank stayed open for business. Zero downtime across fourteen months of cutovers — I have never seen migration discipline like it.”
